"The Rule of Seven"

Experts say that it takes 5 to 7 exposures to an advertisement before someone recognizes your ad and contemplates the product. This topic randomly came to my mind this morning while I was skimming "Food & Wine" magazine and watching Regis and Kelly. I first noticed a print ad in the magazine for the new Bailey's Coffee Creamer. Less than 5 minutes later, I saw a commercial for the same product on television. Now the first advertisement I skimmed past didn't really register in my mind. But once I saw the second one, I thought it looked familiar and I realized I just saw it in the magazine. Now most people that don't understand the tactics and real research that is behind the placement of advertisements would see these two advertisements and possible make the connection, or not. It may take a couple more times being exposed to this product for it to register. The rule of seven is a very important tactic when planning the flight of a ad campaign. The correct research can ensure the greatest strategy for high exposure. Using the best medium for the audience that you are trying to reach in my opinion is the most important part of the process.
